My Favourite Dental Products

Choosing the right dental product can be overwhelming. I have some favourites, and I thought I’d share them with you.

Favourite Floss

Honestly, ANY floss is my favourite! So many of my patients have difficulty making flossing a daily habit. So, if you have a floss that you like, and gets the job done, we are all happy. It’s amazing what flossing does for the health of your mouth.

Favourite Toothbrush

Philips Sonicare Toothbrush

I do love the electric rechargeable toothbrushes. Specifically, the oral B Triumph or the Phillips Sonicare electric toothbrushes. At the moment, I am personally using the Diamond Clean Sonicare. I love this brush as it’s very gentle and gets your teeth feeling so nice and clean. I prefer the electric toothbrushes over the manual ones, as I feel they do a better job of removing plaque and bacteria, especially from the hard to reach areas.

Favourite Toothpaste

Sensodyne Toothpaste

If you are okay with using a fluoridated toothpaste, I recommend ProEnamel. It’s gentle, and protects your teeth against acids. A big bonus, is that it doesn’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate, a chemical which gives toothpaste the foaming action. If your teeth are sensitive, I like the Sensodyne toothpastes. I’m not a fan whatsoever of toothpastes that say ‘whitening.’ They’re more abrasive to tooth enamel, which over time can cause sensitivity. Plus, whitening toothpastes don’t even work. There are much better whitening products out there. If you prefer not to use a fluoridated toothpaste, ask myself or your dentist for a recommendation (depends on your cavity-risk).

Favourite Rinse

I much prefer my patients to brush and floss well, before adding a rinse. Many of the rinses available in stores are acidic, which is not a healthy pH for the mouth. If you really like rinses, consider making your own by dissolving a small amount of salt and baking soda in warm water. The only time I do recommend a rinse, is if a patient has a high-cavity-risk. Specifically a fluoride-rinse.

Favourite Add-Ons

If you clench or grind your teeth, I strongly recommend wearing a night guard. This protects your teeth from wear, chipping, sensitivity and gum recession.  The guards are usually covered by your dental as well! Another great product is the Waterpik water flosser. I have just started using this product and love it.

I am a North Vancouver Dentist in the lower Lonsdale area, and am presently accepting new patients.
